The second Tri Hita Karana (THK) Climate Dialogue on “Energy Transition Towards Renewables” which was held virtually on 14 June 2021 at 7pm to 9pm Jakarta was a follow up dialogue to the April 15 THK Climate Dialogue on Indonesia’s clean energy transition opportunities and facilitated proposed commitment of up to potentially USD$8-10 billion worth of renewable energy investment.
More than 100 participants including policy-makers, regulators, multilateral agencies, investors and international and Indonesia renewable energy corporations involved in the development, generation, storage, and enabling infrastructure attended to explore investment opportunities in Indonesia and discuss issues and challenges facing the transition to clean energy. The THK Climate Dialogue event is also supported by the U.S. Embassy’s U.S. Power Working Group for Indonesia, KADIN and APINDO.
Paul Taylor Commercial Attache, US Dept of Commerce who gave the welcome remarks said “Today’s workshop will be one of the first opportunities, I’m sure for many of the companies that are with us today to participate in these discussions, and to hear directly from the priorities. And the plans hear directly from the Indonesian government on their plans and their priorities that are going to make sustainable development an integral part of the energy sector here in Indonesia. This is a chance for US companies I know to hear from policymakers. But it’s also I hope, an opportunity to provide feedback.”
The event graced by H.E. Suharso Monoarfa, Ministry of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS), said at the opening remarks “I wish to share the reflection to ensure energy saturation towards the renewable. First, in the regulatory framework, we need a firm regulation for renewable energy to ensure the guidelines investment law and incentive rules. Second, in the institutional framework, we should consider a special agency for managing renewable energy development and support from the local institution. And last in funding or financing framework, we should optimise the existing scheme, and explore other innovative blended finance schemes to mobilise the private and international funding for renewables.”
Speakers at the Plenary sessions are Dadan Kusdiana, Director General, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation / Chair of Indo Taskforce 4, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources , who shared on “Policy & Incentive for Renewables”, David Elzinga, Senior Energy Specialist (Climate Change), Asian Development Bank on “Energy Transition Mechanism” and Teguh Widhi Harsono, EVP for Corporate Finance, PT PLN (Persero) on “Green Infrastructures, Smart Grids”.
