The Government of Indonesia together with the Tri Hita Karana Forum (THK) partners, the United In Diversity (UID) Foundation, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Business and Sustainable Development Commission’s Global Blended Finance Taskforce, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), co-hosted a private dinner dialogue on 20 January 2020 held in Seehof hotel in Davos during WEF 2019 focusing on “Realising Indonesia’s Potential through Sustainable Development”. It is an intimate event that brought together business leaders, multilateral agencies and civil societies to share the latest plans and seek feedback in achieving Indonesia low carbon and sustainable future. The private dinner dialogue was graciously supported by GITI Group.
The event opened with an opening remarks by H. E. Luhut Panjaitan, Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment, Republic of Indonesia on
And special remarks by distinguished plenary speakers such as Mr Masayoshi Son, Chairman and CEO, Softbank, Ms Naoko Ishii, CEO, Global Environment Facility (GEF) and Mr Paul Polman, Co-Founder IMAGINE and ICC Chairman, THK Forum Steering Committee
Mr Jeremy Oppenheim, Founder, SYSTEMIQ; Chair, Global Blended Finance Taskforce; THK Forum Steering Committee set the scene for group discussions on the two topics “Mobilising Capital for Nature-Based Solutions: Aligning Global Partnerships” and “THK Blended Finance and Innovation Institute for Better Business Better World: Co-Creating New HIVES (Harmonious, Innovative, Value Creation, Ecological and Social SDG Hubs & Clusters)”.
The first topic “Mobilising Capital for Nature-Based Solutions: Aligning Global Partnerships” is in line with Indonesia’s intention to utilise its natural capital to develop a carbon market to help finance its effort to fulfil its climate pledge under the Paris Agreement as well as propelling the country’s economic growth along the trajectory that is both socially and environmentally inclusive. The second topic” “THK Blended Finance and Innovation Institute for Better Business Better World: Co-Creating New HIVES (Harmonious, Innovative, Value Creation, Ecological and Social SDG Hubs & Clusters)” discussed Indonesia’s unique opportunity to scale up its focus on tech and innovation for the new capital that will embody a green and smart city with largescale eco clusters and innovation hub. These two topics were discussed and each table representative was invited to share outcomes of the group discussion.
The event closed with closing Remarks by H.E. Airlangga Hartato, Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs, Republic of Indonesia and
Lord Prof Nicholas Stern, IG Patel Professor and Chair, Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and Environment, LSE / NCE.
The event also saw the Memorandum of Collaboration signing between World Economic Forum’s Platform for Shaping the Future of Global Public Goods (PGPG) and United In Diversity. The Memorandum of Collaboration will be the basis of the collaboration between the two organisations to support Indonesia through a multi-stakeholder approach to deliver the pivotal breakthrough across the priority systems addressed by PGPG public-private cooperation projects. The PGPG projects include Development Finance; the National Plastic Action Partnership, the Friends of Ocean Action and the Tropical Forest Alliance.
