On the occasion of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) China (CH) 70th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations, Tsinghua University , Indonesian United in Diversity (UID) Foundation and Tsinghua University, United in Diversity Foundation and United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network Southeast Asia hub hosted RICH 70 Tsinghua Southeast Asia Cloud Forum on “Investing in People Planet Prosperity For Our Future of Shared Happiness” which was held virtually on 23rd September 2020, with a series of Exclusive Plenary Sessions on staggered dates on 14th, 22nd and 23rd September. The Exclusive Plenary Sessions are Policy Lab, Happy Digital Cities, NCCC, Innovation Lab, Collab4Health with SOEs, Finance Lab, Peaceful RICH 70, UID for SDGs with SEA and Happiness Lab. These Exclusive Plenary Sessions are by invitation only and senior government patrons, business leaders, civil societies and subject-matter experts were invited to generate productive trilogues across public and private sectors, and civil society to inspire greater exchange of ideas with leaders from Indonesia, China, Southeast Asia and worldwide to encourage collaborative and sustainable development solutions and drive outcomes.
RICH 70 Tsinghua Southeast Asia Cloud Forum is launched virtually on 23rd September 2020. The opening was hosted by Tsinghua Vice President and Provost Yang Bin with welcome remarks by Tsinghua President Qiu Yong. Ning Jizhe, Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), expressed his congratulations and he was commissioned by He Lifeng, Vice Chairperson of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Chairman of the NDRC.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo sent a congratulatory letter to the forum expressing appreciation of Tsinghua SEA’s achievements in human capital development, educational exchange and cross-sector dialogue. He believes that the center will continue to play a catalytic role in bridging Indonesia, China, Southeast Asia and other areas.
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan, UID Foundation President Tuti Hadiputranto, Founder and Global Optimism, Former Executive Secretary UNFCCC, Christiana Figueres, Distinguished Fellow Asia Global Institute, The University of Hong Kong Tan Sri Andrew Sheng gave their keynote addresses to set the scene for this forum.
UN Ambassador Michelle Yeoh sent her welcome greetings for RICH 70 Tsinghua SEA and shared she was inspired to see the campus in Bali celebrate the Balinese Tri Hita Karana values aligned with the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals, that is the three ways to happiness, harmony among people, harmony of human with nature and spiritual harmony.
A live streamside chat was hosted by MIT’s Ford Professor of Engineering and Honorary Professor Tsinghua University Edward Crawley. Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim shared on the topic on how universities contribute to environmental and economic development especially the economic redevelopment will be needed after covid passes and thoughts on how the Indonesian system and the Chinese system could co-create the knowledge exchange.
The forum has closed with a high note broke records and garnered over 320,000 participants with over 1,500 distinguished guests and speakers on plenaries over 3 days with Ministers and Senior Officials including Ambassadors and ASEAN Secretary General, Faculty Researchers from top universities including MIT, Harvard University, Columbia University, London School of Economics, Stanford University, Tokyo University, University of Hong Kong, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University, University of Indonesia, ITB, Udayana, Gadjah Mada University, global organizations including Managing Director World Bank Mari Pangestu and Chairman of International Chamber of Commerce Paul Polman, philanthropy organizations including Global and Asia Philanthropy Circles, CAPS, AVPN, Rockefeller Foundation, Packard Foundation, Milken Institute et al and Business leaders and associations including ICC, UN Global Compact, CCPIT Secretary General, Kadin, APINDO, BTeam, IMAGINE, For-Benefit Enterprise, Ping An, Tencent, Huawei, Facebook, Microsoft, GTech et al.
More importantly, RICH 70 Tsinghua Southeast Asia Cloud Forum has generated productive trialogue’s across public and private sectors and civil society. The dialogue has inspired a greater exchange of ideas and potential initiatives with our Bali campus. The feedback such as cardiology Dr. Robert Lodato has been ‘Never have I joined such a forum in my life with intersection of medical, finance, nature and happiness!’. SDG-oriented projects from health to technology to Blended Finance outcomes will be explored at the upcoming Tri Hita Karana Forum.
